I like that with MFW I can get most everything done even with 6 children of varying ages. Another program you might want to look at if you haven't already is Heart of Dakota. Just buy separate student sheets (one set per child), and it will save you so much money. However, from the samples online I don't get the sense that the actual geography study incorporates much reading aloud together time--it appears to consist mainly of completing worksheets. I am often astounded sometimes at what my child gained through the MFW studies. While studying "Tundras", your older children may retain the characteristics of a tundra ecosystem, while your younger children learn about a pandas bear's camouflage.

My kids were frustrated with all the reading aloud I had to do and resented the sitting still they had to do! Easy to double up days if I get behind. I honestly can not imagine having to teach 2 different history lessons to two different alone 3+ kids that many families have. The children loved it and developed a hunger to learn and read more on their own. MFW felt disjointed and I didn't care for the fact I had to keep flipping back to the calendar to make sure I didn't miss anything. I feel comfortable paying their extremely reasonable prices straight from their website because I know my money is being used in wonderful ways around the world. I have heard that MFW is "easier" or not as deep. Tried neither but trying to figure out what to use next year:popcorn. At first, I was intrigued by Sonlight, but looking thru the catalog it seems overwhelming!! Now SL is well thought out and I appreciate all that the company has tried to do, it just wasn't for us and I feel it took me too long to realize it. I believe in younger years there is not a strong emphasis on it, but that is because the younger years are focused on making learning fun, not on rigorous academia. Bible is not tacked on but integrated into all subjects. So far, I've just pulled from here and there for our curriculum and haven't really found anything yet that I'm really excited about! I'd have the schedule perpetually messed up, because some books we'd wind up way ahead on (because I'm not going to put a book down when the kids still want to hear the story, unless necessary) and other books we'd be way behind. Now they are pulling non fiction and fiction books out of the library to read on their own. Someone always answers during business hours to answer any questions or concerns.

When we first looked at Sonlight, we were drawn by the great books. The history itself did not start with creation. It just felt like busywork. The Bible feels tacked on to me.
