ILLUS: When I was in high school, I took a two- semester course on pottery making. Of course the clay has no will power, it cannot refuse the wish and purpose of the potter, but this is where we differ from the clay. God loves us; therefore, we can trust Him. Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

Caught in the economic blizzard, it would seem as if the nations of the earth have lost their equilibrium. They both liked antiques and pottery, especially was their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. We are safe in His hands from the beginning of the process to the day we are finished. We tell ourselves anyone can work hard, pull themselves up by their bootstraps and become a millionaire. C., is known as "the weeping prophet" because of all the sorrow that he saw--and experienced. ELOHIM is the name used for God our Creator in Genesis chapter one, but my favorite name God has revealed for Himself is first found in Genesis chapter two. Jeremiah is there in the potter's house, he is standing before the wheel, he watches the potter at his task. You have not experienced what it is to be broken. The death of Jesus bought a field full of mistakes in order to remake each and every piece. This is why I have the sacred privilege of preaching the Gospel, while others of course, may serve the Lord in the Sunday School or in some other capacity. Maybe the clay was too wet or too dry.

No doubt that vessel was marred because there were some hard lumps in the clay that resisted the sensitive fingers of the potter, and that is illustrative of the fact that often through our hardness of heart we resist God's efforts to shape our lives.
