Well, one small ray of possible hope arrives in the form of Dr. Susan Drake (Ann Turkel), a sexy but chilly blonde biologist working for the new cannery who promises, through the magic of genetic engineering, to replenish the local waters with bigger, faster, stronger salmon. Also, Dagon is shown to be a man-sized monster, and I would have preferred the full DAGON that is a towering beast. Fish People: The monsters are a bunch of fish people who want to come ashore and, well, knock up the local gals. Apparently only one of the suits looked convincing in close-ups but I'd suggest they don't look convincing in wide shots, or even super-wide shots. Humanoids from the Deep is a pretty mean piece of work that was made with only the purest of exploitative intentions (as was the norm in those days). The monsters are really well made and pretty scary to this day, and the gore still packs a punch. Jim's brother is also victimized, prompting Jim to take a personal interest in the matter. Together they celebrate the arrival of their new guests, where they learn that Alex and Petri have been trying hard to have a child of their own without success. I know it came after this film, but when I watch Humanoids From the Deep, something always catches in the back of my mind, and I finally figured it out this time: this film is Redneck C. H. U. D. So imagine the premise of C. but instead of urban homeless victims, we get rural fishermen, and instead of sewer mutants, we get somewhat Lovecraftian river mutants. Doug McClure as Jim Hill. Things go awry when they begin to find things that... Humanoids is variety brand monster mayhem, basically the same as its predecessors, only absent of any prestige. Arguably the only scene with campiness and a sense of humor is one of the re-shoots, where the Salmon Pageant Queen, played by star and writer of Screwballs, Linda Shayne has her bikini ripped off by a monster and she screams and bludgeons it with a rock.

Story: Dr. Emma Collins and her team are spending their third summer on the island of Little Happy studying the effect of climate change on the great white sharks who come to the nearby nursery every year to give birth. I instantly didn't care about any of these morons and their fake problems and movie style behavior. New World Pictures was on a roll in the late 1970s and early 1980s with films like Piranha, The Brood, Rock 'n' Roll High School, Starcrash, and Up from the Depths – some of them more financially successful than others. That's just cold-blooded, man. They investigate the matter further and discover that there is a race of fish-men living under the sea. This scene is so weird and unrelated to plot in any way that it's only upon learning about Corman's scene-adding policy does its very existence become clear. Country: Mexico, USA.
