Also outstanding is Minnie Driver as the likeable, funny, and ultimately vulnerable Harvard student who opens her heart to Will only to have it crushed. After one too many run-ins with the law, Will's last chance is a psychology professor, who might be the only man who can reach him. After headlining Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rainmaker" and now this feature, he seems ready to conquer the world -- or at least Hollywood. The film really takes off, however, in several key speeches delivered by the main characters. Will Hunting, a janitor at M. I. T., has a gift for mathematics, but needs help from a psychologist to find direction in his life. While the story is somewhat predictable -- the two men will be stubborn at first, then get to know each other, and ultimately be the source for the other's freedom -- it's the journey to that end that's fulfilling.
