I swung my legs off of the bed and hopped on the wooden floor. It always has and always will find new and invigorating ways to awe and inspire those who seek the summit. The temperature is slowly rising as the morning progresses. If you have read my posts in the past seasons, then you know that these flowers are only found in the park above 5000 feet. In the last couple of days I've enjoyed meeting a dayhiker who is using hikes to LeConte and Pikes Peak as training for a summit of Mt. Clouds will continue to build throughout Friday. Kemp, who you may recall as one of our in-season cooks and crew, will be taking up the mantle for the next long while. For my own safety, I will not be outside during this force of nature. I hate to see it go, but it will come back around in the near future. Clear skies and sun rays all day! Things were busy on the mountain Saturday with lots of folks out and enjoying the beautiful day. Could make for a great Labor Day weekend. The temperature actually warmed up about five degrees overnight. Chris and I snowshoed out Alum a little ways to check it out, it was hard with snow shoes. Our helicopter should be rolling into town before long, then it's just a matter of waiting for the weather to break in our favor for some productive hours of airtime. If strong winds across the higher mountains causes a closure of US 441, please have an alternate route planned to the summit, such as Cherokee Orchard. Bring enough layers to keep you dry and warm, and also to change into should you get wet during your trek. When we open our doors on Monday, March 19th, all of these items and more will be available for purchase on the mountain. When I came back up, it was clear and the clouds still hadn't burnt off.
