I'm getting ready to install the new water pump on my Ranger 3. 1941 - 1945, MB, GPW Technical questions and discussions, regarding anything related to the WWII jeep. The pulley bolts should be quite a bit tighter than the water pump bolts. I haven't measured, but I'd guess there's enough clearance in the pump to accept 7mm w/o drilling as well. In short, you won't find a professional mechanic grabbing his torque wrench of any size to put on a component like a water pump. I don't want to crush the water pump gasket if it should be 17 ft-lbs and I don't want leaks, if it should be 40 ft-lbs. I found this to be very disturbing because I was the one that installed the pump several years ago. Sounds kinda sketchy. I know it isn't much, so a dab of LocTite Blue is not a bad idea.... 97 Inch Pounds, for the Coolant Pulley Bolts, sounds right.

Can anyone settle this, obviously they have an editing mistake in the 2005 Service manual. On this engine I thought only the volute size differed, a common bit of knowledge. Also should i use hyrlomar or some sort of sealant in between with the gasket?

To accommodate what they hoped would be more V8 optioned MGB's. GOOD parts can then be established & the NOT GOOD problem/s part/s isolated for repair or replacement. Be careful, a 1/2" drive torque wrench can get you into a lot of trouble with such low torque values, beside it not even very accurate at the low in the range, in short put the torque wrench up.
